The project is rooted in a careful reading of the site’s heritage and territorial context. The former bicycle garage and caretaker’s building was never conceived as a monumental object, but as a functional component of a productive system structured around a historic logistical axis. The intervention seeks to restore this overall logic by correcting successive alterations that have blurred the architectural reading, while reasserting the building’s strategic role within the site’s arrival sequence.
The proposal is based on a restrained and legible intervention that clearly marks the museum entrance without resorting to a dominant formal gesture. Reception functions are located in the former bicycle garage, while spaces for social interaction are housed in the former refectory, directly connected to a south-facing terrace. This organisation respects the original structure and reinforces the coherence of uses.
The project reactivates the former logistical axis as the backbone of the visitor experience, transforming a service route into a touristic and interpretative path. The exterior interventions support this route through reversible installations, made from materials salvaged from ongoing restoration works, recalling the site’s productive history while responding to contemporary needs.
The entire intervention is guided by a sustainable design approach. The project prioritises locally sourced, bio-based materials, reuse strategies, circular and adaptable furniture, and technical systems that maximise the use of renewable energy produced on site. The aim is to deliver a discreet, adaptable and responsible architecture that enhances the legibility of the heritage context while firmly anchoring the museum within an ecological and sustainable vision.
